 This was when Matt Hancock managed to hoist himself on his own petard by being filmed having the kind of Covid friendly grope  that he’d disallowed the rest of us.

 President Zarkozy was finally found guilty of corruption and sentenced to a three year prison sentence but two of them were suspended and the other with an electronic tag was to be served at home which given the pandemic did not seem unduly harsh.

 This references the anti British attitude coming from Europe and Ursula Von  der Leyen in particular during their vaccine procurement incompetence.

 Some were more sanguine about our relationship with Ursula but…

 Ursula managed to scale new heights of irony with her threat to stop exports of the Astra Zeneca vaccine to the the UK while Macron helped to discourage it’s take up by publicly questioning it’s effectiveness.

 Ursula von der Leyen continues to behave incredibly unreasonably to Britain.

 The news that a super tanker had blocked the Suez Canal for an indeterminate period was giving Ursula inspiration.

 The globally televised interview of Meghan and Harry seemed to re-emphasise the importance of devaluing the traditional notion of truth.

 A fantastic achievement ...we landed a car sized vehicle on Mars.

 Ursula von der Leyden continues to justify her actions :

 The government was having unusual and conspicuous success with its vaccination programme…actually hitting its targets which it was approaching with tremendous gusto.

 The much respected Jonathan Van-Tam ( Chief Medical Officer for England ) declared that the more dangerous potentially vaccine evading South African variant may not be too much of a problem as it’s  prevalence was likely to be constrained  by the much faster spread of our very transmissible Kent variant.

In an effort to deflect domestic criticism  Ursula von der Leyden scored a spectacular own goal by invoking Article 16 to prevent the export of vaccine out of the EU to the UK thereby jeopardising the Irish peace process for which the EU had claimed prime importance in the years of Brexit negotiations. She was forced to backtrack in the face of universal criticism but the affair had exposed bureaucratic flaws in the EU project which many were happy to see.

 The news that the EU would suffer a shortage of vaccine while the UK would be well supplied partly from production in the EU prompted the the President of the European Commission to propose banning exports to the UK even though the UK had secured supplies by moving fast and committing early while the EU had hardly got started.
